Architectural Air Distribution for a LEED Platinum Financial Landmark

Located at the heart of the İstanbul Financial Center (IFC), Halk Office Towers is one of the landmark office developments within Türkiye’s new international financial district.

Developed by Halk GYO, constructed by YDA Construction, and designed by Açık Architecture and Design Studio, the project comprises two high-rise office towers together with podium areas, commercial spaces, an auditorium and supporting facilities.

With a total construction area of approximately 410,000–425,000 m², the development combines large-scale corporate office requirements with contemporary architecture, high indoor environmental quality and energy-efficient building systems.

The project has achieved LEED Platinum certification, the highest level within the LEED green building rating system, reflecting its strong focus on sustainability, energy performance and environmental design.

Gerhman contributed to the project with a combination of architectural air distribution, comfort air distribution and pressure-management solutions, including KAPPA-LB concealed slot diffusers, IOTA diffusers, BLUE-S air diffusers and PRD200 pressure relief dampers.


Architectural Integration with KAPPA-LB

In areas where interior architecture was a primary design consideration, Gerhman KAPPA-LB concealed slot diffuserswere selected to integrate the air distribution system discreetly into the ceiling architecture.

The concealed installation concept minimizes the visual presence of conventional HVAC terminals, leaving a clean linear air opening within the finished ceiling.

This makes KAPPA-LB particularly suitable for contemporary corporate interiors where architectural continuity and HVAC performance must be achieved simultaneously.

Behind its minimal architectural appearance, the diffuser provides controlled air distribution designed according to the airflow and comfort requirements of the occupied space.


Comfort Air Distribution with IOTA & BLUE-S

In addition to the architectural KAPPA-LB solution, Gerhman IOTA and BLUE-S air diffusers were used across different areas of the project according to the specific airflow and architectural requirements of each space.

Product selection considered key engineering parameters including:

Airflow Rate · Throw Characteristics · Air Velocity · Pressure Drop · Acoustic Performance · Thermal Comfort

This approach allowed different air terminal solutions to be matched to varying room geometries, ceiling configurations and occupancy conditions throughout the development.

The objective was to achieve effective distribution of conditioned air while maintaining comfortable indoor conditions and efficient HVAC operation.


Pressure Management with PRD200

High-rise buildings require careful management of pressure differences between interconnected spaces and HVAC zones.

Gerhman PRD200 Pressure Relief Dampers were incorporated into designated areas of the project to provide controlled pressure relief.

The dampers respond to differential pressure conditions, allowing excess air to transfer or discharge when pressure exceeds the required operating condition.

This supports the overall HVAC pressure-control strategy and helps maintain stable pressure relationships between different building zones.


HVAC Performance & Sustainability

For a LEED Platinum high-rise development, HVAC performance must combine occupant comfort, indoor environmental quality and efficient use of conditioned air.

Gerhman solutions addressed three complementary requirements:

Architectural Air Distribution — KAPPA-LB
Concealed linear air distribution with minimal visual impact.

Comfort Air Distribution — IOTA & BLUE-S
Air distribution solutions selected according to room geometry, airflow requirements and occupant comfort criteria.

Pressure Management — PRD200
Controlled pressure relief supporting stable pressure relationships between HVAC zones.

Together, these systems form part of an integrated airside strategy supporting architectural integration, thermal comfort, pressure management and efficient HVAC operation.


Engineering Outcome

Halk Office Towers demonstrates how HVAC air distribution can be integrated into a high-performance building without compromising its architectural language.

The use of KAPPA-LB concealed slot diffusers provided a discreet architectural interface, while IOTA and BLUE-S diffusers addressed the different comfort air distribution requirements across the development. PRD200 pressure relief dampers complemented the system by supporting controlled pressure relationships between designated HVAC zones.

Through this combination, Gerhman contributed to the integration of architecture, indoor environmental quality and HVAC engineering within one of İstanbul’s major LEED Platinum certified office developments.
